We can laser cut plastics, woods, rubbers, foams, papers, and thin metals as long as they do not contain chlorine. Common plastic materials include acrylic, nylon, and polypropylene. We’ve engraved just about every type of wood readily available. Certain woods are great for engraving, while others are better suited for strength (part or fixture fabrication). We’ve come to heavily rely on our 24″ x 18″ 90W CO2 Laser for a broad spectrum of projects and our clients love the results.
Laser Made Wooden Name badges
Custom Wooden Coasters
After custom name badges, our 2nd most popular product request are wooden drink-coasters. After years of optimizing cutting methods and sourcing the best materials, our production quality and attention to detail far above the industry standard. After engraving, we apply a suitable layer of polyurethane to the coaster, to where liquids can no longer be absorbed into the wood grains. We also offer an optional cork cushioned bottom for greater table surface stability.
Vector v.s Raster Engraving
RASTER ENGRAVING: A method of marking where the laser head engraves by moving from left to right slowly down the material. Much like how a black and white paper printer works.
VECTOR ENGRAVING: The laser beam follow the path of vector artwork/strokes without cutting all the way through the material. The width of the stroke is made at the kerf of the laser, i.e approx 0.2mm.
PBaRT: Pilst Blue Ribbon Festival Coasters
Pilst Blue Ribbon sponsors a local annual street art festival in Raleigh, NC. All the art that is displayed and sold by local designers and artists to the public is somehow related to the Pilst Blue Ribbon brand or beer can.
Sheet/Fabric Material Prototyping
Our laser cutter is ideal for prototyping folded sheet designs, such as custom labels or greeting cards, packaging prototypes or retail product display developments. We can fabricate first try samples, or even handle small scale production. We have had a lot of success cutting acrylic, polyethylene, polypropylene, card stock, fabrics and textiles, leather, foams, cork and more.
Laser Engraved Glass Tile
One of the most satisfying experiments we’ve made on our laser is to engrave clear glass tiles with white ceramic backing. We inverted the artwork and engraved the white back coating at just the right laser strength. With too much power, our laser vaporized any traces of the white coating and the tile became completely clear. However, after dialing in the settings, we blackened the white, without removing the material from the tile. The results is shown in the image on the left. Now, imagine a larger glass-tiled wall that can have artwork spread across a whole grid of tiles = glass tile mural = awesome!
Laser Made Essential Oil Three Tier Shelving Insert
We get the most use out of our laser cutter fabricating prototypes, products, sings, fixtures and jigs. What you’re looking at in this image on the left is the back side of three custom tiered shelf inserts, for organizing small bottles of essential oils on a larger wall mounted shelf. We assembled laser cut shelf pieces of wood together (and hidden MDF back supports) and applied a layer of primer and paint to all visible surfaces.. Images of final design coming soon!
